Why plotting matters?
We have a dataset with two variables (X and Y) with two conditions. We are interested in the correlation between X and Y.

Very similar!
Why plotting matters?
Let’s check the distributions of the two variables for each dataset

Still kind of similar.
But if we look at the raw data
Discuss the following points
- Is it always relevant to plot the raw data? When it might be not appropriate?
- For summary data, should we use histogram/bar plots, boxplots, violin plots or a combination?
- Would you prefer an exhaustive or a minimalist approach (see next slide)?
- Variability: SD or SE?
- What data we should always present for EEG studies (maybe let’s focus on ERPs)?
Exhaustive
Minimal (somewhat)
