#University Statistics by Christopher McMahan

Introduction

This document was created as my final project in my BAIS 496 class. Here I decided to perform an analysis on Xavier University and Sourounding univeristys. This includes looking into the univseities admition rate, avaerge family income, the type of univerity and even their location and more.I choose do investigate data surounding universisties as a precurser to my summer research with looking into Xavier Univerities Resources.

The data set I will be using is the college scorecard. This is a data set collected and provided by the US department of education.Each row of this data is a post secondary educational institution and each column describes something about the institution.

The purpose of this article is display my data analysis of the Scorecard Data. Along side that I will also show my sentimental analysis on several univeristy reviews from the Niche website. This data set is built from uniberiisty data from all accorss the country. Being a document whihc is avaible to the public for anyone to read and look into to see more details about each university. Univeirity data such as the acceptance rate, student body information facuty infomation and more. Being a data set created by the US department of education this data can be trusted and insured.

The results of this data analysis will show any relations and connections to the universities which fit similar criteria to Xavier Univerity.

Summary Statistics

As an interesting Statistic I wanted to investigate the connection to the university selectivity of Public to Private schools.

This simple graphic can tell us a lot an how based on the averge admition rate, we can see that Private For-Proffit schools have the highest acceptance rate with Private Non-Profit having the lowest and Plublic Unieirtites having an Average in the Middle of the two.

Univeristy Statistics

When looking at the information I want to focus on Univerisities which have similar stats to our very own Xavier Univeristy which is labled as Private non-profit and a City Univerity.Lets work to find the univerity which fits these criteria then find si ularites between them.

Finding the Universities

Lets investigate how univeristies of a similar type comapire between each others cost of attendance by all dirrectly neigbooring states of Ohio.

This Graphic while it may look simple can tell us how through all the neighboring states there is a wide range of costs for attendce with Kentucky having the lowest and Pennsylvanian having the highest. This can then be supported when looking at the average cost of attendance by each of those sates in this graphic. XU has a Cost of attendance of: $50,880

Again we can see that Pennsylvanian has the highest Average cost of attendance for Private Non-Profit universities which are locate in cities and Kentucky and Ohio have the lowest Averge cost of attendence.

Family Background

Whenever an indivule is choosing what college to attend, one factor that may weigh into that diecition is the income of the family. This can be for a multitude of reasons from a students expected family contrubultion to the students attendence, possibly the cost of attendence a student is willing to pay or even to be in a type of school with other students of similar income.

Here we can take a look at univeristies with the same criteria as before while this time looking at the cost of attenced to family income

Here we can see that there is a trend of as the family income increaes the cost of attence increes. With the slight area where while the family income may be high the attence isnt that high which could be due to indivues chooseing not to attend the most expesive univerity that they can afford and instead to be moderate and attend a univerity comfortably.XU has a avaerge family income of: $114,329.60

University Faculty

With covering how difference univeristies within the surrcounding states compair to one another with the costs of attencende. Along with lookinng into how the students family income can contribute to the attence at these univeristies we can now look into what the Faculty salery is like. When looking at this value we wust undertand that these values are Averages of the entire faculy which can be as small as a janior to the deans.

Here we can see that a majority of faculty on averge are only being paid between $5,000 and $10,000. When comaied to the lower cost schools this is undertanvle as the schools dont produce as much revenue as comaoed to the hight cost schools this could be seen as a univerity not paying it’s faculty enough. This could result in the quality of a students education being affected as if a student attends a higher end school and the faculty aren’t truly happy beinging where they are they may not give the best experience and education to the student who paid so much to be there. Xavier University Vs St. Xavier UniversityNiche Reviews

With the previous look into what are some unique pints of universities which are similar to our own. I wanted to see what the students who attend these universities think and comapare that to our own. For this I looked no further to the university which practically shares our name St. Xavier University. I collected Reviews of both universities on Niche and have co-piled them here.

Sentament of the Reviews

This last visulalzation shows the two graphs of the univeristyes reviews and which user type has made what numer of reviews.

We can see when looking at Xavier University that there is a wide range of ratings among all the different user types and the ratings them selves. Then When looking at St. Xavier University has more reviews from its sophmores and jouniors then XU.

Conclusion

It seems that overall our univerity is very similar in comapired to other univerities in the area as while my investigation didnt go directly down to where XU is placed. With the range of universiies like us, we can intierpert from that its up the the students where they truly want to go.
