Here I will be investigating the behavior of individuals who have attended, or are attending Xavier university. The data I am using is from the Xavier University Niche page. For this I have collected 20 reviews each from all 5 different types of rating category from poor to excellent.

Textual investigation

For this research I will be looking at the content of the reviews themselves, along with the category of individuals who submitted the reviews such as freshman, senior, alum etc.

Here, we can see a general breakdown of what the reviewers may be taking about while getting a general perspective from new students, older students, and past students.

-The words the freshman use could be related to them getting used to the campus life, meeting other students, and their professors.

-The words sophomores use could be related to, again, their fellow students and professors along with their classes and online tasks.

-The words juniors use could be related to them finally getting a hold of things on campus and loving the campus over all.

-The words seniors use could be related to the struggles of senior year and them learning everything there is about their programs.

-The words alum use could be related to there support of the Jesuit program and the opportunities which the university opened up to.

-The words general Users use could be related to the university and campus in general and about it being family friendly.

Overall the words in which the different users say in there reviews do show some information as to the quality of the university and what the reviewers have to say; but with the information we have, lets investigate further into the sentiment of the reviews and what emotions could be behind them.

Sentament of The Reviews

Here I want to break down the reviews again by user type and see how the reviews fit on a sentimental scoreboard. First here is a general graphic of all the reviews regardless of user type.

Notice: These graphics are made based off of words which have been given a sentimental score, if a word has not been assigned one it will not appear on these graphics.

This graphic allows us to see how there is a good number of positive words in the reviews, which does have a majority, but negative comments do exist and appear to be much more harsh then the more positive words.

Sentamental Investigation

Freshman Breakdown

Lets look into the different User types starting with freshman and going through the user type list again.

The freshman reviews show similar to what was talked about with the most common words used. The new students do show a positive opinion of the university while here we can also see the struggles they may experience with this being there first year in college.

Sophomore Breakdown

Looking into what the sophomores have to say, we know that they may be getting used to the program now.

This graphic simply shows the true challenges of a sophomore year with while it being both fun and successful, it can also be troubling and hard.

Junior Breakdown

If the sophomores had both ups and downs to say, then, with the juniors hopefully getting a hang of things, we may be able to expect mostly positive.

As expected, this graphic shows that while juniors may face some challenges, they over all love what they are doing and find the university resources helpful.

Senior Breakdown

Looking into what the seniors have to say, the life of a senior can be hard with harder classes and more stress as students get closer and closer to the real world. Along with fighting or riding along with the classic senioritis.

Welp… seniors have issues, and lots of them.

Alum Breakdown

These are the people who loved the school so much they wanted to tell others about how much they love it.

While there is not much context into exactly what this says about the university, we can see that they believe that the university has allowed them to succeed and that something is inconsistent.

General User Breakdown

What may the general users of the Niche site who have not designated what user type they are have to say.

No General Users used any words which have a sentimental analysis score.

Univerity Rating By User Type

The following Graphic can show the number and type of review each user gave.

We can see there is a wide range of ratings when comparing freshmen to sophomores. Freshmen, with ratings in a range of 2 to 4, compared to juniors and seniors with a range of 3-5.

Conclusion

Looking at all of the data displayed, we can see how users experience both fun and hard times as a freshman at Xavier University. More research could be done in this area to look into what is exactly causing these trends as could they be related to the classes, professors, or even the university experience as a whole.
