Objective

My goal is to group the characters by their species and then organize information about each species into categories of age, height, and special powers. To clarify further, a “group” in this context I want to gather all the characters of a particular species together so that I can analyze their data collectively.The dataset itself contains 56 rows (or entries) and 9 columns of data. Each row represents a single character, and each column contains a specific piece of information about that character (such as their name, species, age, height, etc.). By organizing the data in this way, I may be able to identify patterns or trends that exist within each species.

Once I have imported my dataset, I will have the option to set the echo parameter to either TRUE or FALSE in order to display or hide the code in my slides. To read the CSV file that contains my data, I will use the read_csv function from the readr library, which I will import as needed. Additionally, I will import the tidyverse, ggplot2, and plotly libraries, which will allow me to manipulate and visualize the data using a variety of graphs and charts.

Data Overview

The Ghibli_characters dataset is comprised of 56 rows and 9 columns, with each row representing a unique character. The data is categorized into several columns including name, age (which ranges from 2 to 1302 years old), height (in centimeters), special powers, country, gender, species (which includes various categories such as human, spirit, cat, goddess, wizard, and more), movie title, and release date of the movie.

Data Cleaning

• Data Inspection:
  • Upon inspecting the dataset, I see 1 duplicate row of character Sosuke from Ponyo. One of these rows has a N/A value in special powers, so I will not be including that row in my data manipulation.
• Data Validation:
  • The data has correct data types and values to be used in my objective
• Data Transformation:
  • All of the data in the original dataset is in the correct format for producing my objective

  • For the N/A values within the dataset I will be researching to see if I can fill them in with correct data values.
• Data filtering:
  • I will be excluding the country, movie title, and release year columns from my manipulations. These columns are not relevant to my analysis, and I am focusing instead on the characteristics of each character such as their age, height, special powers, gender, and species.
