POKEMON MATCHUP MACHINE

The knowledge that will increase your performance in a Pokemon Run-through the most is your type matchups. With 18 types, there are 324 different interactions between types and that’s only single-typed interactions. With considering the fact that a Pokemon can have two types, there are over 93,600 type match-ups, so understanding each type matchup is vital. The next most important knowledge to have is about how stats interact with each other. Each Pokemon has 6 different stats: Health, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed. Each move is either an Attack or a Special Attack and the power of that type of move is directly related to the respective stat of the move user. The target also has a Defense and Special Defense stat that will lessen the blow from the corresponding type of move.

This app can be used in many ways to test different Pokemon type matchups. The first step is to pick a Pokemon to view, and a stat to evaluate. The default will draw Bulbasaur’s attack stat as a black line against the correctly-colored bars which represent the average defense stats of all the Pokemon types. If you change the stat to Defense, it will then show the average Attack stat of every type. You can specify the effectiveness of Bulbasaur’s same-type attacks to filter out some types. If a type is in the Neutral category, then the best same-type attack will only be Neutral. One interesting Pokemon to explore is the Defense and Special Defense stats of Aggron.
