Introduction

In this data we will be looking at over 2,000 movie and tv show rankings since 1920-2022. This data gives us insight on maturity ratings, imdb rankings, and decades of movies. We will be looking at graphs that look at changes in imdb ratings throughout the years.

Overall Maturity Ratings

First we will do a break down of the maturity ratings in the data set.

In this graph there are more mature rated movies and TV than the others. There are only a few shows rated G for children and as the maturity rating gets higher there are more movies/tv. As expected there are more higher maturity ratings than the rest.

Best Decade

There is always the discussion about which year is the best for movies and tv. We will be using the imdb rankings in the following graphs because IMDB offers more information about Movies and TV and it allows to have critic votes and the general public vote. This graph displays the average imdb ratings of films and tv shows in each decade.

We can come to the conclusion that 1940-49 was the best decade for movies and TV. They have the highest IMDB rankings of the films. Although this can be skewed because of the amount of movies that were released that year and in the data base.

Does having a mature audience lead to a higher imdb rating?

We are going to look at if having a higher maturity ranking will lead to having a higher imdb score.

This graph displays the proper scores but it is really hard to tell because they are only off by a few decimals. We can see that rate R and rated G movies and TV are very close. Now lets look at this in a table

Highest Rated Movie each year

In this graph we will look at each year since 2011 at which year has the highest rated imdb movie

We can see that 2018 has the highest rated movie in the 2010s and that it realeased the best movie or TV of that year.

2007 Graph

There has been many debates on which year was the best for movies. WHen doing research I found that 2007 was claimed to be one of the best years for movies and tv. In this graph we are going to look at the top ten highest rated tv shows and movies in 2007.

We can see in these graph that Flight of the Conchords. We can see that these movies all scored similar on imdb and that they are one of the top of the decade. There is argument for choosing this year because there are many years with a few great movies in them that make the year become great. After looking at all the data, we can confirm that
