Average Wins by Year
Starting off, I just wanted to know the average games a team won by year. To my surprise, it is extremely consistent from 2013-2019, even with all the changes that has impacted the game of basketball.
Average Xavier Wins
Next, I was curious to see how the Xavier men’s basketball team has performed throughout the years included in the data set. We see that 2016 and 2018 were very successful years for the program
Three-Point Shooting Percentage
The three pointer has complete changed the way basketball is currently played. I wanted to see the five best three point shooting conferences included in the data set. I find it interesting that the best shooting teams in terms of three point percentage are lesser known conferences and teams are completely independent (they do not play in a conference).
Worst Defensive Teams
They say defense wins championships. I wanted to know which teams needed the most improvement on the defensive side of the ball. I took the average defensive efficiency and identified the bottom five teams over the entire time span of the data set.
On the bubble
For this visualization, I wanted to know how safe each power 6 conferences from the bubble. Since there are a limited amount of spots in the NCAA tournament, many teams are on the bubble to see if they are selected or not by the NCAA selection committee. We see that the Pac-12 has been on the wrong side of the bubble over the course of this data set, where as the Big-12 has been relatively safe.
