Meet College Scorecard
The College Scorecard is a dataset containing information on over 7,000 schools within the U.S. This includes information on private and public schools and provides data on each school such as the state it is in, average cost of tuition, average faculty salary, etc.
Table of Summary Statistics
From the scorecard, let’s summarize average SAT score, total Undergrades, and average cost for attendence by control (private for-profit, private non-profit, and public)
| CONTROL | National Avg SAT scores | Total UGDS | National Avg Cost for Attendence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private for-profit | 1123.600 | 1116753 | 26328.87 |
| Private non-profit | 1142.283 | 2782378 | 38760.01 |
| Public | 1115.477 | 11547583 | 15695.11 |
Based on the table, private schools (both for profit and not for profit) have a higher SAT and cost for attendence than public schools. While public schools have a significantly higher total of undergraduates in comparison to private schools.
