There are many positive and negative aspects of this data set. What makes a good data set? I think its when the collected information are accurate, reliable, complete, consistent and whether it is up to date. In this data set according to the ProPublica article it states that ” many police agencies across the country are not woking very hard to count hate crimes” which shows that this data set is not consistent. It is a bias data set collected under various different jurisdictions. It is a rich data set but it is flawed. There are many under and over reporting which are some of the negative aspects of this hate crime data set. There maybe too many variables as well. When looking at the hate crim type in NY counties between 2010-2016, we might not be able to make sense out of it. However it gives information about various different hatecrimes in different years. I would like to study about the sudden increase in anti-jewish hate crimes in kings county in 2011.I would also like to see the county with the least amount of hate crimes and see if it’s because they have not reported them properly or to see if there are other reasons.I would like to do more reserch on these hate crimes and see if there are any actions that have been taken to make these data sets better. I would also like to learn how to get a big data set and figure out how to make it in to a smaller graph so I can better understand and interpret these graphs.
