The following graphics provide interactive maps of winter stop over locations for Red Knot rufa subpopulation. These graphics are part of a more detailed report (Using geolocator tracking data to advance understanding of Red Knot migration habits).
Light-sensitive geolocator data was used to track the distribution of 93 Red Knot individuals. Individuals were reviewed and categorized into subpopulations following discussion with experts and draft recovery plan mapping.
Individuals were assigned under the following categories:
Southeast US/Caribbean (SE_US): 31 birds
Northern South America (N_SA): 22 birds
Western Gulf, Western Pacific central/South America (WGWP_SA): 24 birds
Tierra del Fuego (TDF): 9 birds
Uncertain: 7 birds
For each of the maps below, each point represents an estimated winter stop over location (~ 250km radius) with colors corresponding to arrival month (1 - 12 representing January to December). Point size is relative to length of stay at each location, with larger circles representing longer stays. Note grey lines link successive locations by date and represent straight line distance for orientation only.

Point size is relative to length of stay at each location, with larger circles representing longer stays. Note grey lines link successive locations by date and represent straight line distance for orientation only.
