Source Data

From the US Conference of Mayors data, the following sample of 10 cities in our dataset have a 2023 election. According to data from an ICMA survey of governments, the most common mayoral term length is 4 years. However, this is the case for less than half of cities.

  • 1 year: 14%

  • 2 years: 35%

  • 3 years: 6%

  • 4 years: 45%

Chicago, for example, has an election every 4 years. So does Jacksonville FL. So does Dallas, and Denver, and Kansas City and Boise and Fort Wayne and Houston.
