Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) Calculator

“Developing Data Products” / Coursera Project

Why Use This Application?

  • My application tries to show the prolongated effect of alcohol drinking on health and ability to drive safely.

  • BAC is used as a metric for visualizing “Don't drink and drive” slogan via graph plotting percentage of alcohol in blood as a function of time.

About BAC

Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) is a metric of alcoholic intoxication which is defined as:

\( BAC = \frac{0.806 \cdot SD \cdot 1.2}{BW \cdot Wt} - (MR \cdot DP) \)
where

  • SD - Standard Drinks
  • BW - Body Water constant (0.58 for men, 0.49 for women)
  • Wt - Body Weight (kg)
  • MR - Metabolism Rate (0.015 for men, 0.017for women)
  • DP - Drinking Period (hrs)

BAC Level Degradation over Time

  • BAC level for male person with weight of 70 kg after drinking 6 cans of beer
  • It can be seen that at least 9 hours is required to reduce the intoxication to zero level:
