ActiveSG Gym Capacity in Singapore

Project Motivation

This project is created as part of the assesment for the Coursera Developing Data Products Project. As a gym user, I realised that there are peak hours and non-peak hours.

I wanted to visualise the peak/non-peak hours so I can make a better decision on where and when I should workout. And therefore this project is born.

The Application

A web application was created using Shiny which allows users to view real time gym capacity trends as well as long term gym capacity trends. The application can be found here

Specific features of the application includes:

  • Real-time capacity in percentages visualised as a table
  • Comparison of real-time gym capacity between different gyms.
  • Visualisation of long-term gym capacity by gym/day.

Data Source

The data source for this project is from the ActiveSG app on android. A python script was created to automatically check for the capacity every minute and saving this data into a MongoDB database.

The source code for this project can be found on Github
